Key Requirements for the Role
Candidates must meet the following mandatory requirements:
- Educational Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent
- Basic R425 qualification (Diploma or Degree in Nursing) allowing registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
- Proof of current SANC registration
- Diploma or Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
- Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of appropriate nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse
- At least 3 years in a management role within nursing
- 5 years’ experience in Infection Prevention and Control Clinical Programme
- Skills and Competencies
- Strong strategic and operational planning abilities
- Financial management and policy development expertise
- Excellent report writing, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to work independently under pressure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Valid driver’s license
- Creative thinking and problem-solving capabilities

Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Manager Nursing – IPC will be responsible for ensuring compliance with infection control policies and enhancing patient safety across Gauteng healthcare facilities. Key responsibilities include:
- Policy Monitoring and Implementation
- Monitor the application of NDoH and GDoH Infection Prevention and Control guidelines
- Facilitate review and updating of existing protocols and SOPs
- Program Coordination and Research
- Conduct infection surveillance, data collection, and analysis
- Investigate and report nosocomial infections and outbreaks
- Facilitate IPC research and evaluation
- Committee Leadership
- Establish and manage a provincial IPC committee
- Support existing IPC committees within healthcare facilities
- Planning and Reporting
- Develop a costed IPC Plan for the province
- Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual IPC reports
- Operational Oversight
- Ensure availability of protective clothing for patients and staff
- Implement hand hygiene auditing and intervention strategies
- Facilitate early identification and isolation of confirmed or suspected infectious diseases

Criteria for Selection
