This position requires a seasoned professional with expertise in nursing, communicable disease control, and program management.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience:
- R425 Diploma / Degree in Nursing allowing registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
- Post-basic nursing qualification (≥1 year) accredited with SANC in Clinical Nursing Science (Health Assessment, Treatment, and Care)
- Health Service Management or Nursing Administration qualification (≥1 year) accredited with SANC
- Minimum 10 years recognized nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse
- At least 6 years experience in Communicable Disease Control or Disease Surveillance programs
- Minimum 3 years management experience in nursing administration
- Background in project management, infection prevention, health information systems, monitoring, and evaluation
- Valid driver’s license and computer literacy
- Knowledge of nursing legislation, HR and financial policies, and public service laws
- Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
Duties and Responsibilities
The role involves:
- Planning and organizing work for self and support teams to ensure program implementation
- Supporting, monitoring, and evaluating notifiable disease surveillance within the district
- Liaising with Provincial Surveillance Officers, EPI/CDC programs, facility managers, and hospitals
- Conducting active surveillance visits to facilities according to priority levels
- Coordinating case investigations and outbreak responses
- Ensuring accurate management of data: collection, capture, collation, analysis, and interpretation
- Monitoring vaccination impact and trends of communicable diseases
- Developing training materials and supporting district health officers through training and support visits
- Evaluating compliance to National Core Standards
- Reporting updates on notifiable diseases monthly and ensuring quarterly report submissions
- Supporting all district activities and performing delegated duties
